about

The tracks on this album were recorded with the use of the dreamachine in mind. More specifically, each was recorded as a musical accompaniment to a dreamachine experience: listening of any other kind will not be, strictly speaking, in the proper context (improper context does not impede a track's playability). Each track follows a new course of thought, a new mood or aspect, and follows it through to a loose sort of conclusion (more in the descriptions of each track).
Going in, I was weary about the intent of this project, because the dreamachine is meant to be a sort of anti-content experience, in that the visionary state induced by the dreamachine allows the mind to conjure its own images/sounds/ideas/mental avenues, to produce its own state.

( If you don't know what a dream machine is, read about it here:
ultraculture.org/blog/2013/11/27/build-dream-machine/ )

Gysin’s dream was that the machine would replace the television set because it would EMPOWER and ENGAGE the mind of every man, woman, and child in that they would ACTIVELY become the creator and curator of their own imaginary realms, rather than outsourcing one’s mind to corporations, TV, film studios, and advertisers who, by creating all of your content for you, efficaciously dis-empower you. The goal is to create your own content, your own art, your own culture.
Perhaps these tracks can be seen as settings, as places I discovered during and after use of the machine. Try them out and see where they took me.
Or, by all means build (or buy) your own, take a seat, close your eyes and see what your mind conjures. In fact, if everyone who reads this were to try a dream machine once, I'd be happy. Good luck out there, friends. Much love.

If you don’t have a dream machine, the instructions for building your own can be found here (took me roughly 5 hours and cost under $25):

I think you can buy them online, but I'm not sure how reliable they'll be...
Or you could always come use mine. You’re welcome anytime..
